Since
I first made this page, the first three seasons of BattleBots have
been shown on UK TV, The first on BBC 2 in early 2001, and seasons
2 and 3 one after the other in early/mid 2002 on BBC Choice. So,
I have updated the page with more of my favourite matches. These
are in no order, except the order in which I remembered them.
Battle 1
Mauler
vs Bigger Brother
Heavyweight
Class, Season 2
The
Big Brother team were very confident that they would be ripped
to pieces within 10 seconds of entering the arena, but that wasn't
the way the fight went. Mauler hit Bigger Brother at full
speed, and causes little damage. But part of Mauler's weapon
broke loose, and the balance was upset. Hitting the killsaws
was enough to tip them over the edge, and the gyroscopic forces
caused the robot to lift off the ground and flip over. Win
to Bigger Brother.
Battle 2
Nightmare
vs Biohazard
Heavyweight
Class, Season 2
This
battle sent the sparks flying right from the start. Nightmare
hit Biohazard a few times and sent the sparks flying. Biohazard
was thrown across the ring and looked to be
loosing. But they picked themselves up and managed to
jam Nightmare on the arena wall, where they got completely stuck.
Win to Biohazard.
Battle
3
Son
of Whyachi vs Nightmare
Heavyweight Class, Season 3
This promised to be
an explosive fight. With both robots armed with spinning discs,
it was likely to be a one hit match, but who would come out on top,
and who would come out is bits. Nightmare had only had one fight,
being a ranked robot, but had beaten Slam Job with one hit. Son
of Whyachi was a rookie, but had already fought a couple of times.
As the fight started the two robots spun up to speed and headed
arross the floor. Nightmare was planning to turn into Whyachi's
spinning rotor, to minimise damage to itself. But, as Nightmare
was tring to make the turn, the ramps popped up under the robot,
lifting the wheels off the ground. It didn't make the turn. The
result was a one hit win for Son of Whyachi. Nightmare flew into
the air and over, both wheels came off, one pulled the gearbox open
as it went throwing oil all over the floor. And as Nightmare hit
the ground, there was more damage. Nightmare, having turned over,
hit the ground disc first. The disc was spinning at full speed (300mph)
and when it hit the ground, it ripped a huge gash in the floor,
pushing back the tooth that hit the floor, twisted the chassis,
snapped a weapon drive belt and shattered the magnets in the motor.
OUCH!!!
And all in just a few
seconds.

Battle
4
Son
of Whyachi vs Biohazard
Heavyweight
Class, Season 3 Grand Final
This promised
to be good, and it was. Biohazard charged at Whyachi, and one of
it's front sheids was ripped off. But Whyachi lost one of the braces
from it's rotor, and then both robots got jammed in a corner and
were hit by the hammers. Biohazard got free, but then stopped against
the wall. Whyachi got free, and spun it's damaged rotor up. It hit
the back of Biohazard, knocking it free of the wall and ripping
the whole side skirt off one side. As Biohazard was being counted
out, it started working again. Another hit from Whyachi knocked
Biohazard to a stop again. Whyachi couldn't move well either but
Biohazard wasn't moving at all. The count out started again, but
Biohazard started moving again. But this time the count didn't stop,
and Biohazard was counted out. But, as it was still moving, the
match went to the judges. It didn't really matter, Whyachi was declared
Champ.
