ROBOT WARS SERIES 3

Series 3 was the biggest of the UK wars, and contained some great battles.  Here is a heat by heat account of the series. But first, some details.

Series 3 contained 128 robots in the main championship, and had 127 battles.

There were three championships, Robot Pinball, Robot Football and UK Robot  Wars Series 3.

There was also a World Championship containing 16 robots from Wales, England,  Scotland, Holland, Australia and America.

So, here is the blow by blow account of series 3.

Heat A.

Heat A started us slowly, with the magic lucky star of the Mace 2 team seeing  them past their first battle with the novel Stinger. Sir Killalot showed  Forklift's Revenge his power, whilst Raizer Blade met it's match in Suicidal  Tendencies. Mace 2 pitted Weeliwako and then Suicidal Tendencies to line up in  the first Semi-Final.

Heat B.

Heat B saw the bulldozer of Behemoth return, bigger and better. It quickly  removed Shark Attack and General Carnage whilst Pitbull returned Sump Thing and  Technophobic to the pit from which they came. Behemoth and Pitbull squared up in  the final, but the Behemoth team failed to reach the Semi- Final as they did in  the previous war, losing to the arena spike.

Heat C.

Heat C saw the return of the weapon that is Razer. Razer removed Backstabber  to the pit, but was stabbed in the back against Aggrobot, as for the second year  running Razer fell out with a broken part. Aggrobot met Blade in the final,  Blade winning a place in the series Semi-Final as Aggrobot had an arguement with  Dead Metal - and lost.

Heat D.

Big Brother quickly removed both Grim Reaper and the suited and booted boys  of Sir Chromalot from the wars, before meeting Ultor in the final. Little 7 year  old Jo Watts and his Big Brother lost on a judges decision, but the Ultor team  made way for the younger enginneer as they withdrew allowing Big Brother into  the semis.

Heat E.

Heat E saw the return of George Francis and the mighty Chaos 2. They removed  Crocodilotron very quickly, before meeting Sonic, which met an early low, then a  high, and then another low. Roger Plant and his Big Cheese could lift a car, and  completely removed Srapnel from the wars early before going on to meet Chaos 2  in the final. The battle was voted battle of the series, as Chaos 2 flipped Big  Cheese and then flipped it back. Big Cheese then flipped Chaos 2, which Self  righted before tipping Big Cheese over again. Big Cheese couldn't quite recover,  but did manage to dismantle Sgt. Bash.

Heat F.

The expensive and infamous Mortis was back in Heat F, quickly removing Ming,  whose weapon broke off and reached the highest orbit ever reached by a saw. But  Mortis was removed by the spooky coffin shaped, and spookly Cassius like,  Gravedigger, who took advantage of a Mortis right track failure. Gravedigger  then beat The Darke Destroyer to go into the semi-final.

Heat G.

The girls of the Naplam team where back in Heat G, Napalm unchanged from  series 2. They won into the final, beating Robopig with a lucky break, but not  before Killalot got a bit hot under the collar as he caught fire. Napalm met  Steg-a-saw-us in the final, and was totally destroyed. Steg-a-saw-us was into  the semis

Heat H.

Heat H was H's all the way. Hypno-disc, Harrowing, Hair raising and Hand me a  brush to pick up the peices. Robogeddon was the first to fall, followed by  Steath both reduced to scrap, but Hypno-disc met it's match in the final as the  spinning disc couldn't cut through the shell of Berzerk II. But Hypno-disc got  lucky as the arena spike again played it's part.

Heat I.

Beast of Bodmin and the champions of the first wars were back. They removed  Onslaught to meet Invertabrat in the final, with The series 1 champions and  their new Beast of Bodmin went into the semis.

Heat J.

Centurian was the first into the Heat semi followed by 101. The two battled  to face King Buxton in the Heat final, with 101, built for 101 pence, beating  the Roman army. 101 vs King Buxton was a grudge match from series 2. There the  King had won, but not this time as 101 flew into the semis.

Heat K.

Heat K saw the return of reigning champions Panic attack. They quickly beat  Axios and Then they beat Toe Cutter. They met their match in the final as  X-Terminator battled hard. The match was decided when X-Terminator's CO2 bottle  was punctured, allowing Panic Attack into the semis. Was the PA luck holding  out?

Heat L.

Panzer and Evil Weevil were the class of Heat L, with Undertaker,  Triterrorbot and Flip Flop Fly among the losers. Panzer failed to start in the  final, however, and the Evil Weevil had an easy path to the semis.

Heat M.

Heat M was unlucky for some as the long wait for the return of Cassius came  to an end. Cassius II beat Dundee, the unlucky party who had met Cassius before  as Loco in series 2, before attacking the House Robots. But it all went horribly  wrong as Mick Cutter drove Cassius II into the pit and out against Pussycat.  Pussycat met Scutter's Revenge in the final, beating it. But the Pussycat was  put out by the judges because their saw blade had shattered on contact with the  wall. Scutter's Revenge polished the paintwork for the semis.

Heat N.

I had lost interest with the exit of Cassius II, but was cheered up by the  pit-fall of Killerhurtz. The winner of the best driver award during the American  BattleBots series drove into the pit in his first battle. His excuse? 'I didn't  see that damned pit!' Yeah right! It's just big and black. Meanwhile Giffon fell  to Cerberus and Thing II won into the final. Thing II then removed Cerberus and  moved into the semis.

Heat O.

Irish eyes and Irish fur were back with Diotoir. The team had a knightmare,  when customs took the robot apart leaving the team just 24 hours to rebuild.  They managed and beat Sting II with a popular win, the driver of Sting II  offering to buy the first round at the pub. BIG mistake! Meanwhile Firestorm was  storming through to meet Diotoir in the final. Diotoir had beaten Steel Avenger  before, as cutom befits, catching fire. But Firestorm beat the peoples champion,  no not Jimmy White, but Diotoir.

Heat P.

The final heat saw a plucky performance by Trident, first beating the bush on  wheels, whose name can't be said let alone be spelt by anyone! Dreadnaught also  returned, removing Phycokiller to face Trident in the final. Dreadnaught pushed  and shoved before, as custom befits, breaking down and losing!

Semi-Final 1

The pluckly Trident was removed by Chaos 2, who then went on to blow out the  lucky star of Mace 2 to take the first place in the Grand Final. Firstorm shone,  removing first Pitbull, which was roasted by Killalot, before netting it's  biggest win - the reigning champions. Firestorm beat Panic Attack and PA's run  of luck ran out.

Semi-Final 2

Hypno-disc was on top form, but the disc was too high to do real damage to  Evil Weevil, but the weevil was forced into the House Robot to be eaten.  Hypno-disc was then against 101 for the closest battle ever, the judges coming  out into the arena to look for damage. They made the decision to let Hypno-disc  into the final. Meanwhile Steg-a-saw-us was busy beating Gravedigger and then  removing the series 1 champions with Beast of Bodmin. So the finalists were:

From Ipswich - Chaos 2

From Oxford - Hypno-disc

From Durham - FireStorm

From Southamton - Steg-a-saw-us

The Grand Final

Elimitnator 1.

Chaos 2 vs Firestorm saw the biggest laugh ever on Robot Wars. Chaos 2  managed to flip Firstorm over and then pushed it towards the arens wall. But  something caught on the floor, and Firestorm flew into the air and over the  arena wall, down the 4 foot drop on to the camera track below. Chaos 2 claimed  the first place in the Grand Final.

Eliminator 2.

Hypno-disc vs Steg-a-saw-us proved that Hypno-disc could be fought against.  But the disc caused fatal damage to Steg-a-saw-us (and thanks go to the  Steg-a-saw-us team for calling their new robot the shorter name of Steg 2) and  Hypno-disc was up against Chaos 2.

The Grand Final

Chaos 2 was up against Hypno-disc. But Hypno-disc had gearbox problems and  they hardly moved. They feared the flipper of Chaos 2, and with good reason as  Chaos 2 flipped Hypno-disc over. Chaos 2 then took on Matilda and Shunt, and  beat them as well.

So that was how the series 3 champion was decided. That was how we chose our  champion, that is how we chose

Chaos 2.
