ROBOT WARS SERIES 4
For series 4 there is a new format. Instead of 8 robots in each heat
fighting in 4 first round battles with two robots in each battle, there are now only 6 robots in each heat, two of them being seeded, fighting in two first round, three way melee battles. Two robots
go through to the next round from each melee, with one going out. Also this year there is a seeding system, with 32 seeds chosen by the Robot Wars staff. There are two seeds in each heat. The series
has now finished, and here are the results: (the number in brackets is the robot seed number)
Heat A.
Reigning champions Chaos 2 (1) started easily by
throwing Indefatigable out of the arena. King B3 (17) lost to Atomic whilst Chaos 2 took on Medusa 2000. Chaos 2 vs Atomic was the final, with Chaos 2 going into the series semi finals.
Heat B
Razer (3) was back along with Pussycat (19). The two easily won into the heat
final, where Razer broke down again. It was then trashed by a mercyless Pussycat.
Heat C
Diotoir (21) returned and was met with disaster. The team missed the ferry
from Ireland and only had two hours to finish their robot. They lasted 10 seconds. Firestrom (5) beat The Morque in the final.
Heat D
Steg 2 (7) and Mortis (23) returned and both won into the closely matched
final. But the power of Steg 2 and its 900psi flipper beat mighty Mortis and threw it into the pit.
Heat E
101 (9) and Shadow of Napalm (25) were in the heat, but Shadow of Napalm
was beaten by Dominator 2 which then beat 101 in the heat final.
Heat F
The first UK cluster bot Gemini (8) took on The Creature and threw it over the
wall. Beserk 2 (24) was beaten by Tornado who then beat Gemini in the final.
Heat G
Gravedigger (13) proved its unlucky seed number when it broke down in the
first round. Dreadnaught XP-1 (29) beat Warhog in round one but was thrown around and badly damaged by Sir Killalot. It made it into the second round to
lose to Thermidor II. Thermidor II lined up against Kronic the Wedgehog in the final. Thermidor II went into the series semi finals.
Heat H
Roger Plant was back with Wheely Big Cheese (15),
Beating Prizephita 2 and the returning Killertron (Which wasn't in series 3, and has not been changed from series 2). Meantime, Suicidal Tendencies (32)
beat Maverick and the also returning Wheelosauraus, again not seen since series 2. Wheely Big Cheese then faced and just managed to beat Suicidal
Tendencies, after the judges said Tendencies was broken before Wheely Big Cheese fell into the pit.
Heat I
Killerhurtz (16) returned from driving school to beat Distruct-A-Bubble but it
then lost to Small Torque when the speed controller caught fire. Centurion (31) had a fail safe failure and lost whilst the final was Small Torque vs Splinter.
Small Torque's Hi-tech CO2 motor cooling system failed and it caught fire.
Heat J
Bigger Brother (14) and 7 year old Joe Watts was back, and it beat Clawed
Hopper (The first walking robot to enter the main contest) for a place in the second round against Bulldog Breed 2. But the clear favioute, Bigger Brother
lost a high pressure CO2 pipe and couldn't self-right, leaving them out. Meantime Stinger (30) beat Hammer and Tong to face Bulldog Breed 2 in the final, a final with Stinger won easily.
Heat K
The major talk here was the early loses of both of the seeds, Evil Weevil (12)
and Wel-Dor (28), both of which lost in the first round. Sumpthing disabled itself, and Mousetrap went into the series semi-final, beating Tiberius.
Heat L
Music lovers dived for cover as Plunderbird 4 (26) entered the pits in an army
Helicopter. They teamed up with Vercingetorix to beat Fat Boy Tin, whilst Spawn of Scutter (10) and Knightmare destroyed Banshee. In the final, Spawn of Scutter beat Knightmare.
Heat M
Wild Thing (11) and the Steel Avenger took out Humphrey in round one whilst
Scorpion was flame grilled and lost its tail. The final was Wild Thing vs Steel Avenger, with a close fight ending as Steels Avengers srimech arm got bent and
it was left upsidedown, ready to be pushed into the pit. Which it was, as the House Robots backed out to let Wild Thing do the pushing.
Heat N
Behemoth (6) was back taking out Rambot and Judge Shred 2, whilst
X-Terminator 2 (22) took out Millennium bug, another walker, and Arnold Terminegger. The final proved to be good, and it was X-Terminator 2 that got the win, taking out Behemoth.
Heat O
Series 2 champions Panic Attack (4) were back, and showed their will to win by
removing Overkill in round one. Aggrobot 2 (20), having beaten Razer last year, looked to more gaint killing, but didn't get the chance. They beat Oblivion 2 but
lost to Smidsy. Panic Attack beat Saw Point, whose wheels are made of huge saw blades, and then killed Smidsy to get into the semis.
Heat P
This time we had to wait for the final heat for the H's. Only this time, it was a
mix ofs H's and E's. Hypno-Disc (2), Even more Harrowing, Even more Hairraising, and Hand me a brush to pick up even more pieces. In its melee
round, it broke both Raizer Blade, who stayed alive the longest, and Predator, who lost both its batteries. Cerberus (18) was too heavy and lost its head, and
its battle. Onslaught was meant to be in the heat, but broke down allowing V-Max a chance to fight. However, they probably wished they hadn't bothered,
as they met Hypno-disc in round two. More batteries, motors, gears, Co2 and steel flying. Raizer Blade beat Terror Bull, to fight Hypno-disc again in the
final. But they had been blowing speed controllers all the way though, and they had borrowed Dead Metal spares for the last fight. But they lost their
hydraulics, and the speed controllers, and their bodywork, as Hypno-disc stormed into the finals.
Semi Final 1.
Chaos 2 fought Steg 2, the underdog hoping for a trip into the finals, but the
reigning champs flipped Steg 2 more and they got stuck the wrong way up. Tornado met Wheely Big Cheese. Tornado in orbit, but the titanium wheels of
Wheely Big Cheese shattered against the wall, and with Tornado having completed re-entry, Wheely Big Cheese was out. Firestorm was put out by
Dominator 2, and Pussycat just about beat Thermidor II. In the second round, Pussycat had a good battle against Dominator 2, with Pussycat into the Grand
Final. Chaos 2 met Tornado, Tornado was quickly pushed up onto the arena wall, and was quickly tipped over it, landing nearly on the camera. Chaos 2 into the final.
Semi Final 2
More H's as Hypno-disc took to the arena floor again.
Splinter was the poor robot. It started well for Splinter but one attack went wrong and Hypno-disc trashed it. Killalot somehow found the one place on
Splinter that could be used to pick the robot up in one piece, and he threw it accross the floor to its final destruction, as it fell apart. Panic Attack beat
Spawn of Scutter, as the House Robots gathered round for the kill. Stinger beat Mousetrap, when the weapon chain fell off.Wild Thing Terminated
X-Terminator 2, but the faces of the team dropped when they were told who they were fighting next. They put up a brave fight against Hypno-disc, but the
judges gave it to Hypno-disc on the damaged wobbley wheels of Wild Thing. Panic Attack fought Stinger, uniterasting battle, but poor judges decision, as
the winners Stinger were booed. Everyone (Including me) felt Panic Attack should be in the final. But at least they escaped the finals with Hypno-disc.
Grand Final
Eliminator 1.
Pussycat vs Hypno-disc.
This battle promised so much for the crowd, but it was all over at the first
strike. Pussycat hit the right rear wheel as Hypno-disc turned to get time for the disc to spin up, and Hypno-disc was instantly going round in circles as the
wheel guard jammed the wheel. But a dead robot can still be dangerous, and the disc was still spinning. Pussycat came in, and the two high speed weapons hit and
Pussycats blade bent. Shunt then stuck its axe though the spinning Hypno-disc, and the force pulled the axe into Hypnos front transmission. The disc stopped,
the drive stopped and Killalot dropped them into the pit.
Eliminator 2
Chaos 2 vs Stinger
Nearly everyone wanted to see Chaos 2 beat Stinger, and the battle was a good
one. Stinger was impossible to flip, but Chaos 2 kept trying and got it up into the air a few times, but Stinger causes huge damage to Chaos 2. The back panel
was ripped out, and the front covers started falling off. But Chaos 2 won the battle on a judges decision.
Playoff
Hypno-disc vs Stinger
The battle never happened. Hypno-disc was badly damaged. Shunt had struck
his axe into the rotating disc, pulling the axe blade into Hypnos front drive system. The gears were badly bent, and the damage couldn't be fixed. Stinger were third with Hypno-disc forth.
The Grand Final
Chaos 2 vs Pussycat
This promised to be good, and it was. Pussycat got a few holes in Chaos 2, and a
piece of armour reached orbit flying out the top of the battle box. Chaos 2 flipped Pussycat over and over until the blade broke. Pussycat had trouble
getting back onto its wheels without its blade, Chaos 2 nearly got it out of the arena, but the judges had to decide the champion. The winner was clear, all
points went to CHAOS 2, making Chaos 2 the first robot ever to win two titles, and not only that but two titles together.
