News

22/2/2003, 12:35pm GMT - OK, so we didn't get to Techno Games this year, but not because of the robot. That was working and ready to go, but we had no transport. Still. We have a few new projects. The Britannic series (Britannic and Britannic II) of swimmers has now ended, and our new swimmer is a secret at the moment. The Lizard name (first used on our second heavyweight fighter) returns this year with Lizard (Techno Games lightweight sprinter) and Evil Lizard, an identical featherweight fighting robot. And (one for the Staffs Uni SEAT team of three years ago) Thrasher is back! Thrasher III is being designed and will be back this year. And of course, there is Spyro. The aluminium sheets that make up the robot are all cut to size (thanks to Kedek for that) and just need to be drilled for the axles, rivets, bolts and motors. I was going to be doing this last week, but I was very busy at Riverside Recreation Centre in Stafford, helping with the half term activites (and hello to all the other MVs that were there if you have found this site, and lets face it I mentioned the address enough times!). And now for some website news. I hope this will soon be moved to another new server, with four times the webspace. This will allow for more pictures, videos and animations. There could even be a 'How To' website on its way to you soon! And I may finally get some pictures of the team on to the site, so you know who we all are.

14/10/2002, 8:23pm BST - PANIC STATIONS!! Only just under two weeks to Techno Games, and none of the robots are even close to being finished. Britannic 2 (which has now been renamed Britannic Gold) is the closest, with its electronics finsihed and working, but the flippers haven't been built yet. Lizard is in lots of pieces. The legs have been drilled and almost painted, the frame is there, but the legs still need to be fitted. I've also got to order motors and some kind of electronics. The plan was RRC controllers, but it looks like relays and servos will have to do (meaning I could run out of servos!). This is going to be tight, and I don't know if I can afford the polycarbonate for the covering of the two robots.

2/10/2002, 10:17pm BST (Yes, a late night one this) - No major news, but I have re-started work on Britannic 2, Lizard and Spyro after a break to get University enrollment (and the major problems) sorted out. I've ordered the last two motors for Britannic and the axles for Lizard. I will be ordering the aluminium for Spyro this week, so we can get going at last. Also, the main base of Total Chaos 2 has been cut from the 12mm MDF left over from Spyro's mock-up, with the sides and back to follow tomorrow. We won't be able to get ready for Extreme, and it will be a push to get Spyro ready for Techno Games, but we'll try.

4/9/2002, 6:36pm BST - The website has been overhauled again, and has also changed server. The site has completely changed, and now has more pictures. I have added writeups for all the robots we have in the Robots section, and writeups for Series 5 of Robot Wars UK and a few fights from BattleBots. At the moment we are building for Techno Games, and the robots are: Britannic 2, Lizard and the first part of Spyro. But I have just recieved a phone call which could change our plans. Robot Wars are looking for people for Extreme 2, and we have a small chance of going. We therefore need to get the robot going as soon as we can. So, if any of you kind people out there know the address of a metals supplier in the UK who can supply aluminium sheet, please please please contact us. Thank You. More updates to come soon. Keep building them robots folks!
