Lizard is our
brand new robot for the Techno games 2003 lightweight sprint. It
is a progressive walker, but works in a totally different way to
Skuttle. It has a steel frame, and is quite a big machine.
Building the main
chassis was easy - the top frame from the old version of Spyro was
reused! The frame was ready made, and an obvious choice. It was slightly
bigger than the oiginal plan, but that wasn't a major problem. The
robot runs on two sets of legs, left and right, with four legs per
set, making a total of eight legs. Each leg was going to be made from
steel box, but this was proving a problem when it came to mounting
the cams and axles that drive the legs. So, a change was made and
the legs are made of MDF instead. Each leg is made up of two sheets
of 12mm MDF glued together, making a total thickness of 24mm. Photos
and the rest of this write-up will follow shortly.
